AnorTech receives US$1m from Sarfartoq REE project sale
AnorTech Inc., a Vancouver-based materials developer listed on the TSX Venture Exchange, has received US$1.0 million in cash and 70,000 shares of Greenland Mines Ltd. following the closing of Greenland Mines's acquisition of the Sarfartoq rare earth element (REE) project in Greenland from Neo Performance Materials. The payment represents AnorTech's contractual entitlement to 5% of the total consideration from the licence transfer, bringing its aggregate Greenland Mines shareholding to 318,000 shares.
The Sarfartoq project is described by the company as a neodymium-rich deposit. Neodymium is a key input for the permanent magnets used in electric motors and wind turbines, placing it squarely in the supply-chain conversation for clean-energy hardware. Neo Performance Materials, which sold the project, retains offtake rights for up to 60% of future Sarfartoq ore or mineral concentrate production for processing at its Silmet rare earth separation facility in Estonia, and becomes a strategic shareholder of Greenland Mines as a result of the transaction.
What the deal means for AnorTech
For AnorTech, the transaction is a balance-sheet event rather than an operational milestone. President Jim Cambon said the US$1.0 million in cash proceeds are non-dilutive, meaning the company did not issue new shares to generate the funds. The company reports over C$3.0 million in working capital and says it intends to deploy the cash to advance its core anorthosite-based alumina business, which is separate from the Sarfartoq REE asset. AnorTech also noted that its Greenland Mines stake provides indirect exposure to the company's Skaergaard gold-palladium-platinum project in southeast Greenland, though that exposure is incidental to AnorTech's stated strategic direction.
The company's primary technology platform targets the production of smelter-grade alumina (SGA) and high-purity alumina (HPA) from anorthosite rock via a zero-waste process, alongside alumina-based catalysts for carbon dioxide capture and low-carbon refractory cement. It filed a provisional US patent for its SGA and HPA process in 2025 and shipped 15 tonnes of anorthosite to Ontario for pilot plant testing. Commercial partnerships have not yet been announced.
Market context
The broader REE supply chain has attracted sustained investor and policy attention as Western governments seek to reduce reliance on Chinese processing capacity. Greenland has emerged as a focal point for European and North American critical-mineral strategy, given its geological richness and, since 2025, its increasingly prominent position in geopolitical discussions about Arctic resource access. Several junior miners and mid-tier developers are pursuing Greenland projects, though permitting timelines and infrastructure costs remain significant constraints.
On the alumina side, high-purity alumina commands a significant price premium over commodity-grade material and is used in LED substrates, lithium-ion battery separators, and semiconductor components, in addition to the catalytic and cement applications AnorTech is targeting. The HPA market is competitive, with established producers and a growing number of process-technology challengers.
AnorTech's immediate forward milestones are the outcome of its pilot plant tests in Ontario and progress on strategic partnership discussions. The company has not disclosed a commercial production timeline or capital requirement for a first plant.
