BrightHy Solutions hits FEED and FAT milestones on two hydrogen projects

Fusion Fuel Green (NASDAQ: HTOO) has reported that its wholly-owned engineering subsidiary, BrightHy Solutions, has cleared two project-execution milestones on a pair of undisclosed green hydrogen developments in southern Europe, pushing both closer to construction and commissioning.

The first milestone is the completion of a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) package for a 15 MW industrial green hydrogen production facility. FEED is the detailed engineering stage that follows concept development and precedes a final investment decision; its completion allows a project owner to issue tenders for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts. BrightHy said the FEED work provides its client with a technical framework to advance procurement. The facility, once operational, is intended to supply green hydrogen for blending into the local natural gas network. No production-volume target, project cost, or client name was disclosed.

The second milestone is the completion of Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for major equipment packages associated with a hydrogen refuelling station, also in southern Europe. BrightHy's engineering team conducted the testing in China alongside suppliers Sungrow Hydrogen and Houpu Global Clean Energy. The company said the equipment has since been shipped and is in transit to the project site, where installation is expected to precede commissioning.

Project context

Chief executive Frederico Figueira de Chaves described the milestones as evidence of BrightHy's ability to "execute on complex hydrogen infrastructure projects and turn commercial opportunities into tangible project progress." The statement is carefully hedged: neither project has reached financial close or named an offtaker, and both releases are qualified as forward-looking with material execution risks including permitting, financing and on-time delivery.

Fusion Fuel itself has evolved significantly from its origins as a solar-to-hydrogen technology developer. The group now operates across three divisions: Al Shola Gas (liquefied petroleum gas distribution in the UAE), BrightHy Solutions (hydrogen engineering and advisory), and BioSteam Energy (biomass-powered industrial steam). It also holds uranium and natural gas royalty interests in Canada, Colombia and Argentina. That diversification reflects a broader pivot in the green-hydrogen space, where pure-play electrolyser developers have struggled with capital scarcity and are increasingly repositioning as integrated service or engineering businesses.

Market and policy read-across

Southern Europe, principally Spain and Portugal, has been among the most active regions in Europe for green-hydrogen project development, partly because of strong solar resources that lower electrolyser power costs and partly because of early regulatory support under national hydrogen strategies aligned with the EU's REPowerEU and Hydrogen Strategy frameworks. Network blending, the use case for the 15 MW production facility, is one of the lower-value but lower-risk entry points for green hydrogen: it requires no new distribution infrastructure and benefits from existing gas-grid demand, though its emissions-reduction impact per tonne of hydrogen produced is limited compared with direct industrial or mobility applications.

The refuelling station project speaks to a different market: mobility demand for compressed green hydrogen, which remains thin in most of Europe outside captive fleet operators. Equipment suppliers Sungrow Hydrogen and Houpu Global Clean Energy are both Chinese manufacturers active in the electrolyser and hydrogen-station equipment markets, a reminder that European hydrogen project supply chains retain significant Asia-Pacific exposure despite EU efforts to build domestic manufacturing capacity.

For investors tracking Fusion Fuel, the key near-term milestones will be a final investment decision and named offtaker for the 15 MW production facility, and a commissioning date for the refuelling station. The company's going-concern disclosures, cited in its own forward-looking-statement boilerplate, underline that commercial delivery on both projects is material to the group's financial position.
